On Saturday our fabulous award-winning textile artists and embroiderers - Emma Reichenbach and Jacky Puzey - visited Mentoring Plus to run a workshop for the Girl's Group. Another step in their sustainable fashion journey, the girls were taught new skills in upcycling their pre-loved items in preparation for the catwalk on 9th July, 2020.
The girls learned more about Jacky and Emma's careers, were able to touch and take inspiration from their sample work and understand ways in which fabrics, ribbons, sequins, beads and stitching can be used to add texture and vitality to existing clothing.
This was the fourth Fashion & Fairytale workshop with the Girl's Group and is another step on the road to the girls' nature-inspired mood boards becoming a reality.
We are indebted to Rachel P Blake for supporting the girls with sewing, using Bondaweb and developing their animal designs. Without these kind of collaborations Fashion & Fairytale would not be able to have the level of impact we are ambitious to achieve.
We cannot wait for you to see the girls' creations and the four winning entries to the Fashion & Fairytale competition on the catwalk on the 9th July at the Assembly Rooms, Bath.
We will be posting ticket details over the coming months; it promises to be a wonderful celebration of the creativity of young people across B&NES and will raise much needed funds to support Mentoring Plus in their continuing work across the county.
It also promises to be a fabulous night to celebrate all of our collaborators and partners; if you want to showcase your sustainable fashion credentials, support with the manufacture of the four winning competition designs or perhaps have skills in lighting, sound and exhibition curation, then get in touch.
