PURE PLANET IS PARTNERING WITH FASHION & FAIRYTALE TO SPONSOR BRITAIN'S LARGEST EXHIBITION OF SUSTAINABLE FASHION COMPETITION ENTRIES.

As most of you now know, Fashion and Fairytale aims to inspire young designers to think more sustainably and consciously about the fashion industry and its impact on the natural environment. Therefore, we are delighted that Bath-based green energy supplier Pure Planet is joining forces with us to sponsor the exhibition of all of the wonderful competition design entries that have been flooding in from young people across Bath and North East Somerset.

Fashion & Fairytale is ambitious. We hope to have an impact on a social and environmental scale and with Pure Planet’s help we believe, we can inspire a new generation of designers that challenge the status quo, question buying habits and put sustainability at the heart of their creativity, thus future proofing the fashion industry and preserving the natural environment for generations to come.

The UK is Europe’s main market for fast fashion but according to Greenpeace we send £140m worth of clothing to landfill every year. The average person has 115 items of clothing but 30% of them have never been worn.

Steven Day, co-founder of Pure Planet said:

“As a Bath-based green energy supplier we’re delighted to support such a fantastic sustainability initiative for young people in our community.
“Fast fashion is one of the leading causes of climate change. The fashion industry is responsible for 10% of all pollution produced globally.”
“We like to think of our members as Zero Heroes for taking steps to reduce their impact on the environment and so are proud to sponsor this competition.”
“We hope this will help inspire young people in Bath and North East Somerset to think about where their clothes come from and consider more sustainable alternatives.”

Pure Planet is an independent, entrepreneurial, renewable energy company, harnessing the power of its members to help change the world for good. Founded by Andrew Ralston, Chris Alliott, Steven Day and Tom Alexander – a group of friends who share a desire to make a difference, their vision is to create a sustainable, compelling, mass-market company, which offers its members 100% clean, renewable power at game-changing, value-for money prices.

Pure Planet’s founders have worked together since 1999 when they launched Virgin Mobile in the UK together, before going onto to run Orange, T-Mobile and EE together.

BP, which has a minority shareholding in the company, is one of the world’s leading energy companies and supports Pure Planet’s vision to offer consumers access to clean, safe and secure renewable power. As a global leader in energy trading, BP also provides Pure Planet with pre-eminent access to the UK’s renewable energy generators and markets.

The deadline for entries is only a few days away: Friday January 31. A panel of leading sustainable fashion industry experts Cindy Beadman, Andy Jackson, Rachel P Blake and Emma Reichenbach will then select the four winning designs.

Alongside winning fabulous prizes and craft workshops, the designers will see their outfit manufactured with support from local recycling charity, Wiltshire Scrapstore, and thanks to our new partnership, exhibited alongside nature-inspired inspired gowns from our creative director, Cindy Beadman, at the Assembly Rooms in Bath, on August 3rd and 4th 2020.
